Requirements and Eligibility
Before enrolling in the IV Therapy & Blood Withdrawal Certification Course, there are certain requirements and eligibility criteria that participants must meet to receive certificate/CEUs. Participants must have valid photo identification and at least one of the following:
-Be a graduate of a California Vocational Nurse program
-California Licensed Vocational Nurse
-Possess an interim Permit status for California Vocational Nurse licensure.
-California Licensed Registered Nurse
-A California Licensed Physician
Candidates who complete this course pre-licensure will have certificates copied and filed until licensure is current/active. Additionally, participants must have a basic understanding of medical terminology and anatomy to successfully complete the course. It is also important for participants to have a strong interest in expanding their knowledge and skills in IV therapy and blood withdrawal techniques. Finally, participants must be able to commit the required time and effort to study and practice the course materials to successfully pass the certification quizzes throughout the course AND perform a required successful venipuncture.
Candidates who obtain licensure after course completion, must contact the provider upon receipt of licensure and request submission of the required certificate to the Board.
Learners/Registrants are required to perform three successful skin punctures on live human subjects, peers or volunteers.
